How To Best Use Gift Bags: Pair a Solid Bag with a Themed Gift Wrap Tissue
- Gift wrap bags can be any gift giver’s saving grace for last minute gift giving! The wise person will keep a supply of gift bags in white, black, gold, and kraft/natural in their home.
- Rather than purchase celebration-specific bags (for example, Christmas, birthday, thank-you), use the solid colored bags filled with unique tissue papers. Look for gift wrap tissue paper in event specific designs.
- Great deals on tissue paper can be found in stores on the day following the particular holiday. Scour party stores, discount stores and stationery stores on December 26th for terrific savings on Christmas tissue, and on February 15th for slashed prices on Valentine’s Day tissues.
- For the remaining holidays, focus on stocking a colorful supply of gift tissue paper. Internet merchants like Nashville Wraps, Uline, or Papermart offer a wide selection of tissue wraps in a rainbow of solid colors, elegant designs and fun animal prints.
Simple Gift Bag Wrapping Instructions
- Place a piece of tissue in the bottom of the bag.
- Place the gift on top of the tissue and tuck a second piece of tissue gift wrap around the gift and extending above the top edge of the bag. For extra punch, use two complementary tissue papers for the top layer, offsetting them slightly from one another, so that the two separate sheets can be seen.
- Complete the packaging by tying a simple bow on the two handles. Use curling ribbon in matching or contrasting colors, leaving long enough ends to be looped into bouncy curls.

Simple Gift Bag Wrapping Instructions
- Tuck the gift inside one of these glossy white boxes, filling up the extra space with a colored gift wrap tissue, paper shreds or paper crinkles.
- Encircle the box with several layers of coordinating gift wrap, creating a banded effect. Measure the width of the box. Wrap the shortest girth of the box with a piece of gift wrap that is narrow enough to leave at least an inch of exposed box on either side. Tape this strip of gift wrap to the underside of the box to prevent slipping.
- Layer a second strip of coordinating or contrasting gift wrap over the first, making sure that it is narrow enough to leave an inch or more exposed of the first layer of paper. Play with the dimensions of the papers to create a look that’s pleasing. Consider tearing the edges of the gift wrap for a light-hearted effect. Add a third layer of paper for a decadent look. Match solids and patterns, pair pastel or bright solids, or add a foiled paper for a different effect.
- Finish the look by tying a simple, wire-edged ribbon in a square knot over the top layer of gift wrap.
